Cory’s Story: How a £50 eBay Find Transformed His Life

29-year-oldÌýCory Hall spent his life with his hand clenched in a fistÌýuntil a £50Ìýdiscovery granted him movement.Ìý

Cory is one of our brilliant members at Hedley’s Horizons in Forest Hall, where his physiotherapist Nafeesa made a lifechanging discovery.Ìý

While learning about the treatment and management of spasticity, Nafeesa discovered assistive robotic gloves designed to help create and restore movement in the hand. With typical prices starting at over £100, Cory’s carer Gary turned to eBay and found one to test for just £56.Ìý

The assistive glove has loosened Cory’s grip, allowing him to hold his hand flat, pick up and drop items, and move his fingers, both with and without the use of the glove for the first time in his life.ÌýÌý

Not only has his mobility improved, along withÌýenhancedÌýskin integrity and hygiene, but the personal impact has been lifechanging.Ìý

Cory’s mother Tracy said:

“The increase in his confidence has been massive.

All he wants to do is put the glove on and show people what he can do. As soon as it’s off, he wants it on again. He’s so impressed that he can do things with his hand after years of being unable to.”

Nafeesa added:

“He’s more motivated, he can see the progress and is so fulfilled from it,

“Sensation in his hand has increased, and his quality of life has really improved.”

Powered simply by a USB cable,Ìýthese assistive gloves canÌýalso be used for stroke patients, people with arthritisÌýand hemiplegia.Ìý

Cory has been a part of the Â鶹Éç Foundation since 2011 and we are so proud to see all that he has achieved so far.
