Getting Creative With the Live Theatre Gardening Project
Learners from Northern Counties School have been giving a helping hand to the Live Theatre team’s Community Garden.
Over the last few weeks, a group of learners from Northern Counties School have been enjoying nature and connecting with their creativity through a project with the wonderful team at .
Week 1
Using clippings from garden magazines, students designed their dream garden to create the cover for their activity journals. Then, they visited the Community Garden and selected which vegetables or flowers to grow and plant, finding the best garden spots to help them thrive.
Week 2
Students checked in on their plants and photographed their progress, before diving into the sensory side of nature. They enjoyed various smells, touches and tastes of fruit and vegetables before taking part in garden-themed games.
Week 3
It was time to tidy up and give the garden some love! Students swept, weeded, and made sure every plant is thriving. They then created garden-inspired crafts like sun catchers to add beauty and colour to the space.
Week 4
The project finished by revealing the pressed flower artwork and reflecting on the whole journey through poetry writing. Students left the project with beautiful handmade journals, an increase in confidence, and lifelong memories.
Kerry Robinson, Project Manager at the Â鶹Éç Foundation said:
“The Live Theatre team consistently seeks opportunities to equip our students with the skills necessary for entering the workforce. The recent gardening sessions were organized with this goal in mind. As a result, participating students have enhanced their teamwork abilities, increased their confidence in following instructions, and, most importantly, enjoyed a valuable and fun experience.â€
Thank you to the team at Live Theatre for another incredible collaboration that has made a truly positive impact on our learners.
